Rachel Ross

What companies/classes are you currently in?

I am currently a part of the JazzCAT company and Hip Hop company.

When did you start dancing?

I started dancing in 6th grade, so later than most.

Do you remember your first dance routine?

My first dance routine at Center Stage was a hip hop dance with Katrinka to Missy Elliot songs.

When did you start at Center Stage?

I started at Center Stage in 7th grade when I was 12.

If JazzCATS were collectively running the world, how would the world be different?

I think the world would be a lot more chaotic, but it would definitely be more fun.

This is a substantial time commitment. Why has it been worth all of the energy you’ve put into it and the sacrifices you’ve made?

Dance has been worth it because it is my emotional release from all the issues in the world. When I step into the studio, I know I won’t have to worry about other problems and just focus on having fun.

Do you do other outside of school activities?

Yes, I am an EMT on Morganville’s first aid squad and also volunteer in underprivileged communities for an organization called STEAMPark. I also am the vice president of my senior class council for school.

What animated movie or TV show or character were you obsessed with when you were little?

I loved Kim Possible; she was such an icon. I wanted to be her when I was older.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Definitely sushi, there’s such a large variety of things you can get.

Favorite book?

I don’t read much, but if I had to choose one, it would probably be It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. It’s a really sad book, but I could not put it down

If you were to write a book, what genre would it be?

I think I would write a romance novel because they can be very interesting sometimes.

If you were on Jeopardy, what category would you kill on?

I would definitely kill the “Stupid Answers” category because I feel like I could read into the question to see what the real answer is.

The zombie apocalypse is coming. What three people would you want on your team? What job would each of them have?

I would have my mom be the “leader” of the group because she is very good at keeping people in check and ordering them around. Next, I would have my boyfriend Kyle as the “thinker,” the person that comes up with ideas. Lastly, I would have Maya on my team as the “doer” who performs all the tasks with ease.

You have to sing Karaoke. What would be your song?

“Nobody Gets Me” by SZA. I’m really good at hitting those high notes.

What’s next?

I am hoping to be attending college next year.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Hopefully, I will have finally become a doctor and maybe open my own practice. I have always wanted to help people who may not always be as privileged.

Will you come back to visit Center Stage, or are you gone for good when you’re out the door?

I will obviously come back to visit Center Stage. I have made lifelong friends here, and it is like a family. I wouldn’t give it up for the world.
